May 3, 1924 — January 21, 2016

Orville Archie King passed peacefully in his sleep at the Good Samaritan Society's Riverside Assisted Living facility in Pine River, MN, at the age of 91. Born on May 3, 1924, on the family farm in Ideal Township, six miles east of Pine River, to parents William and Maude (Bowman) King. He was a graduate of Pine River High School and following graduation he entered the Army during World War II and saw action as an Army Medic on Leyte Island in the Philippines and was part of the occupation forces in Japan following the end of the war.

On his return to Pine River, he became a Star Route mail carrier through the Fifty Lakes, Swanburg and Crosslake areas and in 1948 he was united in marriage to Dorothy P. Scott. In 1949 his parents contracted the mail route from him so he and Dorothy could move to Washington State where he was a cement truck driver during the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. Returning to Pine River in 1950, he resumed the mail route until retirement in 1990. They made their home on White Pine Point until Dorothy's passing in 2007. Orville remained in the home until entering assisted living in 2015.
He was a proud 50 year member of the American Legion, a 50 year State Fire Warden, also a long time member of the VFW and the Star Route Mail Carriers Association.
