Orlo Waldhoff, age 90, of Crosslake passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. A memorial service for Orlo and his wife Doris, who passed away in March, will be Saturday, September 30, at 2 pm at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, with visitation during the hour before the service. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake.
Orlo Theodore Waldhoff was born at home in Oak Grove Township on January 15, 1927, to Theodore and Annie (Nordin) Waldhoff. When he grew up he joined the Navy, and served on the destroyer USS Purdy during WW2. He received an honorable discharge and later was a member of the Naval Reserve. He attended NW Electronics Institute in Minneapolis, and became skilled at repairing TVs and radios during a time when they still had tubes and were repairable. He was married to Doris Anderson on June 25, 1949, in Minneapolis. He worked for, and later retired from, Cargil. After his retirement, Doris and Orlo owned and operated the Luck-E-Strike Resort in Crosslake for several years. Orlo was a member of the Zurah Shrine and Scottish Rite. He was a lifetime member of the DAV, and a lifetime member of the VFW, first at Post 182 in Minneapolis and later at Post 3839 in Jenkins.
Orlo is survived by his three children, Cindy (Jerry) Lukasavitz, of St. George, UT, Douglas (Becky) Waldhoff, of Zimmerman, and Deborah (Bob) Ash, of Brainerd; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Audrey, of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, on March 6, 2017; his parents, Annie and Theodore; three sisters, Larue, Cleo, and Lois; and two brothers, Glenn and Curtis.
