Onie Simons

Onie Simons, 92, Pillager, died Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be Friday, December 29th, 2017 at 11 AM at the Casino Assembly of God Church, rural Pillager, MN, with visitation Thursday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and for one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.

Onie Miller was born on December 5, 1925 in St. Cloud, daughter of Otto and Lucy (Nyggard) Miller. She grew up and was educated at Pillager, leaving school early to help her dad with his logging business and helping out on the farm. She worked at Ruttgers Resort for a summer. She was united in marriage with Alfred Simons on October 31, 1946 in Brainerd, MN, they made their home in Pillager, where they raised their seven children. After her children were grown, Onie worked at Maddens Resort in housekeeping for twenty years retiring in the late 1970’s.

She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Onie is survived by her husband of 71 years: Alfred; six children: Larry Simons of Garrison, Linda (Donnie) Johnson of Pillager, Nancy (Lloyd) Hansen of Brainerd, Patty (Dan) Mannie of Brainerd, Keith (Jo) Simons of Baxter, and Tracey (Darrel) Thomas of Motley; 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Otto and Lucy Miller; a daughter: Kristi Buscho; a grandson: Kyle Thomas; and a great grandson: James Martin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples.
