Ole Rono

December 16, 1929 — November 10, 2003

Ole Eugene Rono, age 73, of Fairfield Township, died Monday morning (11-10-03) at the St. Cloud VA Hospital. Services will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 in the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake with Reverend Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinewood Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Crosslake American Legion Post 500. Ole Eugene Rono was born on December 16th, 1929 in Fairfield Township to Ole and Olive (Ackerman) Rono. He grew up there and attended the local country school. On July 6th, 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force. Before being stationed in Guam, he married Dorothy Goette on October 31st, 1951 in Webster, SD. Following his return to the States in May of ?53, he and Dorothy moved to San Antonio, TX where he finished his enlistment at Lackland Air Force Base. After his discharge in November of ?56 they returned to Fairfield Township to live, work, and raise their family. For 30 years Ole worked for Hanna Mining based out of Crosby and Hibbing, he retired in 1979. Throughout the years he has been active with the town board and was currently serving as the Chairman of the Fairfield Township Board. Those who cherish his memory and survive are his wife, Dorothy, 5 children, Russell and Robert Rono both of Crosby, Randy (Bobby) Rono of Pine River, Marta (Arne) Swanson of Aitkin, and Pamela (David) Straka of Brainerd, sisters; Ellen (Albin) Olson of Crosby, and Rose (James) Blakesley of of Aitkin, brothers; Charles (Joan) Rono of Crosby, Arnold (Jeanie) Rono of Anoka, Phillip Rono of Fridley, Frances (Lyndia) Rono of Anoka, Cecil Rono of Crosby, 2 Grandchildern; Amanda Swanson of Aitkin and John Swanson at NDSU, as well as many nieces and nephews.
