Nyla Janine Skogland, age 82, of Baxter (and most recently Nisswa), MN, went to see her Lord and Savior on June 4, 2022. She was born to Norman and Pearl (Schardin) Johnson on November 27, 1939, in Tyler, MN.
After a 7-day engagement, she married the love of her life, Jerry Skogland, in 1960. They lived in the Twin Cities area until 1972 when they moved to the Brainerd Lakes area. Nyla was known for her beautiful paintings (she could make a rock look like a sleeping fawn), her love for Jesus, helping wherever needed, and for speaking her mind :).
Nyla leaves behind her daughters, Cindy Hewitt and Sherri (David) Goedker; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Loreli Johnson; brother-in-law, Jack Bartosh; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Pearl; husband, Jerry; brother, Barry Johnson; sister, Ethel Bartosh; and grandson, Israel David Goedker.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, 7398 Fairview Rd, Baxter, MN, with a light luncheon to follow. Interment will be at a later date at Rosy Cemetery in Blackduck, MN.
In lieu of flowers, Nyla wishes donations be made to the food shelf at First Baptist Church (check made to FBC with “food shelf” in the memo line).
