Nuna Elvera Kjera, 95, of Baxter, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at Excelsior Place. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 8th at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services.
Nuna was born October 23, 1917 on a family farm in Stevens County, the daughter of Melvin and Ella (Tinseth) Hanse. When she was seven, the family moved to Cyrus, MN where she graduated from high school in 1935. She was united in marriage to Walter Kjera in 1937. The couple lived in the Starbuck, MN area until 1960 when they moved to Anchorage, AK where they made their home for 50 years. Following Walter's death, Nuna returned to Minnesota and lived in Baxter to be near family.
Nuna was an active member of the Sons of Norway and was a charter membeber of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed sewing, lefsa making, fishing, traveling, bowling, and yoga. She had beautiful flower gardens which was a passion of hers.
She will be missed by her son, John (Marlene) Kjera, of Fifty Lakes, MN; her sisters, Thora Tollefson, of Morris, Margaret Aslagson, of Starbuck, and Rubye Alfson, of Morris; sisters-in-law, Marvel Hanse, of Richfield, Eunice Sylvester, of Bloomington, and Carolyn Pederson, of Benson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Brian; daughters, Joleen and Nancy; brother, Harold; and sisters, Dorothy and Laverne.
