Norris S. Mattson, age 84, of Motley, formerly of Hopkins, passed away peacefully at the Lakewood Care Center, on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 26, at 11:00 AM, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Motley, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery near Camp Ripley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider donations to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Morrison County in Little Falls, MN.
Norris was born on June 14, 1927, in St. Paul, MN, to Edith Mattson. He grew up in Darling, MN, and entered the United Sates Army in 1945. He fought overseas in WWII. In 1955, he married RoseMary Kirchen. Norris worked for many years as a snowplow operator for MN Dot, retiring in 1992. Norris was a member of the Randall VFW Post and St. Michael's Church. He enjoyed watching football with his family.
Norris is survived by his wife of 57 years, RoseMary; children, Dawn Mattson of Hastings, Jeffrey (Marlene) Mattson of Arlington, WA, Eric Mattson of Everett, WA, and Amy (Tom) Taggart of Mound, MN; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his 105 year old mother , Edith Olson ,of Brainerd; and sister Edith (Ronald) Johnston, of Hackensack. He was preceded in death by his Stepfather, Walter Olson and brother, Walter Jr.
