Norman Cortney Hunter, 88, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at St. Therese's in New Hope, MN.
Norman was born October 5, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Sherman and Opal (Hallett) Hunter. Norman enlisted in the US Navy where he served heroically for 4 years during WWII. He received a medal for valor for his submarine service. He served in the Army Reserves for an additional 22 years until retirement and was an active member of the United States Submarine Veterans. He married Clara Kahl in 1946 and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2008. They were blessed with 5 children: Carol Lee (Gene), Janice Besche, Louise Magnuson (Morse), Jim Hunter (Teri) and Dean Hunter (Juli), 21 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and counting. Norman married Leone (Knaeble) in 2009, bringing 10 step-children and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren into his life. Norman and Leone were active members of Sacred Heart Church in Robbinsdale.
Norman worked for Minnegasco for 38 years before he retired in 1986. Norman was a lifetime member of the Jenkins VFW and was also a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Norman liked to carve wood, golf, and square-dance.
Reviewal Tuesday, September 16, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, MN, 5:30-7:30 PM, with prayers at5:30. Mass at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, MN, followed by interment with military honors at Pinewood Cemetery.
