Norbert H. Kunkel, age 82, of Cold Spring, formerly of Crosslake, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, October 14, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, October 16, at the Wenner Funeral Home, 151 Oakwood Ave SE, Richmond, MN, with parish prayers at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 AM, at the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake. Interment, with Military Honors, will be following services in Pinewood Cemetery at Crosslake.
Norbert Kunkel was born February 2, 1924, at Pearl Lake, MN, the son of Leo and Katherine (Resch) Kunkel. He was united in marriage to Isabel Weismann on June 23, 1947, at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville. They lived in St. Cloud until 1981 when they retired to Crosslake. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Cloud and also worked as a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Crosslake.
Survivors include his wife Isabel and children: Katherine Kunkel, of Crosslake; Bernard (Karen) Kunkel of Minneapolis; Susan (Richard) Klein of St. Cloud; Mark (Linda) Kunkel of Buffalo; Dennis (Susan) Kunkel of Sartell; Richard (Pamela) Kunkel of Mendota Heights; Mary (Mark) Moraczewski of Cold Spring; Julie Kunkel (Tom Hall) of New Albany, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by brothers and sisters: Sister Francetta Kunkel of Techny, IL; Bernard (Lucille) Kunkel of Mapleton; Leo (Agatha) Kunkel of Rockford; Dolores Nystrom of Kimball; and Sister Rita Kunkel, OSB, of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Katherine; brothers, Jerome, Ambrose, and Benedict; and sisters, Margaret, Bernice, and Mary Catherine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cathedral High School in St. Cloud or Camp Knutson at Crosslake.
