Murriel Flategraff, age 88, formerly of Pequot Lakes, passed away early Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2013, at Seasons at La Jolla in La Jolla, CA. Murriel was born July 18, 1925, in Pequot Lakes, to Henry and Margaret Flategraff. He was in the Air Force from 1943-1945. Murriel married Lois Norris in 1950 and they resided in Minneapolis. In their early years, Murriel worked for National Tea. In 1961, he joined Pick-n-Pay Supermarkets (First National) in Cleveland, OH, as a Meat Manager, advancing over the years to Senior Vice President. After retiring in 1991, Murriel and Lois moved to Pinehurst, NC, enjoying golf and warmer weather.
Murriel is survived by his son, Brian Flategraff of Nashville, TN; daughter, Cheryl Dine (Martin) of San Diego, CA; sister, Mardell Nelson (Eldon) of Lakeville, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lois; his parents; brothers: Charlie Brandt, Francis Brandt, Andrew Brandt, Lewis Brandt, Oscar Flategraff, Elmer Flategraff, Alfred Flategraff; sisters: Marie Johnson, Rose Gahnstrom, Josie Curran-Moe, Esther Mason, and Henrietta Nelson.
Murriel was always concerned for children in need. The family requests memorials to a children's charity or Alzheimer's research of the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.
Services will be at 2 PM on Sunday, January 5, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, with Pastor Donna Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Our Savior's Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
