Muriel Mehl

Muriel J. Mehl, age 78, of Brainerd, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at St. Joseph?s Medical Center. Memorial services will be Friday, May 21, 11 AM, at Crosslake Lutheran Church, with Reverend Mark Anderson officiating. Friends may visit at the church one hour prior to services. Memorials are preferred, to the local chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness. Arrangements entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Muriel Jane Hartwig was born April 19, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to Oliver and Gladys (Taylor) Hartwig. She grew up in Chicago and was united in marriage to Robert Mehl October 6, 1945. She was a homemaker while her daughter was young. She later worked at the Sherman Hospital and the Community College in Elgin, Illinois, and then worked for nearly 20 years at K-Mart. Muriel and Robert moved to the Lakes area in 1998, to be near their daughter, Susan, and her family. After 57 years with Robert, Muriel was widowed in 2002. She had most recently lived at Brainerd Manor.

Muriel was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Darrell Swanson, of Crosslake; her granddaughter, Laura (Brandon) Pederson and their daughter, Madeline, of Ideal Corners; two sisters, Beverly McSorley, of Wheeling, IL, and Barbara Jean Straub, of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Charles Hartwig, of Wheeling, IL, and Ralph Hartwig, of St. Charles, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
