Morris Kuschel

December 11, 1921 — May 31, 2015

Morris Slavens Kuschel, age 93 of Sebeka, MN, went home to greener pastures on Sunday, May 31, 2015.

Morris was born to Charley and Nioma (Slavens) Kuschel on December 11, 1921, at their home in Buckman Township, near Royalton, MN. His family later moved to another farm in Benton County near Rice, MN, and they farmed there until Morris was twenty years old. On September 10, 1941, Morris was married to Stella Mudick, and the young couple moved up north to a small farm and stayed there for 11 months until Morris was called into duty; serving in the European Theater for the next 38 months, during which he was sending money home to Stella so she could buy another 40 acres of land. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945, he and Stella moved and started farming again on a larger dairy farm. After the dairy barn was destroyed in a fire, they made the transition to raising beef cattle on the Rocking K Ranch, more land was bought, and then cleared, and more cattle were added. Morris had a passion for cattle and the cowboy way of life. He loved to talk about cattle, ride pastures, and anything cattle related. Everyone that met Morris knows ranching was his passion and what made him happy. Many have said they learned the most about raising beef cattle over a cup of coffee with Morris. He also enjoyed watching the next generations learn about ranch life and how to raise cattle and horses, although ranching often got in the way of going to church, he always thanked God for good kids and ranch life. Besides being a founding member of the Minnesota Cattlemen's Association, Morris served as an Ansel Township Supervisor for 36 years and a Fire Warden for 49 years.

Morris is survived by his wife of 73 1/2 years, Stella; 4 children: Patricia (Tom) Wallace of Osakis, Londale (Betsy) Kuschel of Sebeka, Douglas (Paula) Kuschel of Backus, Thomas (Linda) Kuschel of Sebeka; 10 grandchildren: Terrill Wallace, Leah (John) Chalmers, Kelly (Aaron) Furher, Lacey Kuschel, LD Kuschel, Jennifer Kuschel, Levi (Roseanna) Kuschel, Miles (Sarah) Kuschel, Beth (Philip) Stoderl, and Valerie Kuschel; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild with another to arrive soon. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul; 5 sisters; 1 sister-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law; a young nephew; and 1 great grandchild.

Services will be 11 AM on Friday, June 5, at First Lutheran Church, Pine River. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to services at the church.
