Miles W McNally, 86, died peacefully August 17th at home on Lake Sylvan, surrounded by his family. He was a man of integrity who loved to serve others. 50+ year agent with Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. and founder of McNally, Dunnavan & Lund, Inc. He was a president of the American College of Life Underwriters and the MDRT Foundation, a long-time board member of Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Sister Kenny Institute, and was a deacon, elder, and trustee of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he belonged over fifty years. Miles was born in Minneapolis, and graduated valedictorian from Washburn H.S. and the Univ. of MN, with graduate work in mathematics at the U. of Edinborough. He served as 1st Lieutenant in the 89th Infantry, in Pattons 3rd Army, during WWII. Miles loved what he did: selling insurance, helping families and businesses, and solving problems with his unique blend of creativity and mathematics. He was a trusted financial advisor to many companies, individuals and non-profit organizations. His hobby was working in his workshop at his beloved Arranmore on Gull Lake, where he spent most summers since 1935. He was the proud father and grandfather to his children and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, wife Marjorie of 54 years, and sister Elizabeth Chapin. He is survived by wife Carolyn Linner, daughter Sally Ahlgren (John), sons Carl, Tom and Michael (Devon Anderson). Grandchildren Kevin, Erica, Keith, Megan, Anna, Nicole, Mark, Svea, and Coleman. The Linner family, Robert (Elizabeth), David (Rhonda), Sarah Quie (Joel), Amy Quarberg (Tim), and Erik, and 10 special grandchildren.
Visitation (Wed. 8/20, 5-8 pm) and Memorial Service (Thu. 8/21, 1pm) at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 12th and Nicollet, Mpls (612) 332-3421. Memorials preferred to Westminster or donors choice.
