The Lord called Miles Albert Grotjohn, 85, to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 23, 2008. A Memorial Service of thanksgiving and praise for the Lords grace and mercy, whereby Miles will enter the Lords gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 29 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baxter. Visitation will be held at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday and for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Friday. Miles was born on June 17, 1922, in Hancock, MN, the son of Albert and Edith (Fangmeier) Grotjohn. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. Miles grew up in the Morris area and attended school there. He proudly served his country in the US Army from June, 1940 until April, 1945. Miles was honored and awarded the Sharpshooters Qualification badge, the American Defense medal, and the Good Conduct medal. On September 1, 1947, Miles was united in marriage to Mary Mumm at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Morris. Their marriage was blessed with two sons and three daughters. Miles and Mary lived in Morris, Miles City, MT, Grand Rapids, MN, Hibbing, MN, and, since 1959, in the Brainerd-Baxter area. Miles was a devoted husband and father and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a retired floor covering installation mechanic. He was a charter member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, enjoyed Bible class, the Over Fifties club, and other activities. Miles was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Miles is mourned in passing by Mary, his wife of 60 years; his children and grandchildren, Thomas (Nancy) Grotjohn and their children Stefan and Christine, Robert (Wol Shin) Grotjohn and their children Mark and Elisa, Kay (Kelly) James and Jill, Patricia (Kurtis) Bramer and their children Isaac and Isabel, and Debra (Nick) Rudbeck and their children Megan, Ethan, and Jordan; his siblings and their spouses, Carol Grotjohn, Irene Riedner, Paul (Elaine) Grotjohn, Joanne Schonauer, Richard Grotjohn, Judy (Jerry) Washik; in-law's, Betty Wolf, Marjorie (Willard) Lemke, James (Gail) Mumm, Beverly (Grant) Gulseth, Sandra (Gordon) Bellig, Mark (Sandra) Mumm; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Earl Grotjohn; brothers-in-law, Micheal Riedner and Gordon Schonauer; parents-in-law, Henry and Frances Mumm; sister-in-law, Diane Mumm; brother-in-law, Harold Wolf; and nephews, Philip Mumm and Peter Jungwirth.
