Mildred Marie Wilhelmson, 96, Columbia Heights, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at The Lighthouse Assisted Living of Columbia Heights. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, MN. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church beginning at 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Interment will follow services at Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
Mildred was born November 23, 1914, in Staples, MN, the daughter of Fredrick and Julia (Kinsella) Hoemberg. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since birth, attended Sacred Hearth Catholic School, and graduated from Staples High School in 1932. Her family and her faith were the center of her life. She was married to her husband Norman for 53 years, before his death in 1992; they enjoyed collecting and refinishing antique furniture. Mildred looked forward to family gatherings at their cabin on Lake Shamineau. She liked to travel with the New Horizons Group and went on many trips to Branson, MO and Pella, IA. She enjoyed having coffee parties with neighborhood friends and liked to treat others to dinner out. Wednesdays were a highlight because she got her weekly edition of the Staples World.
She will be missed by her children, Dan (Kathleen) Wilhelmson, of Palm Desert, CA, Julieanne (Donald) Herman, of Spring Lake Park, MN, Michael (LoAnn) Wilhelmson, of Motley, Timothy (Kathy) Wilhelmson, of Matomedhi, MN, and Patrick (Judy) Wilhelmson, of Fort Worth, TX; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Margaret Dyer, of Staples, Eleanor (George) Suddendorf, of New Hope, MN, and Patricia (Jerome) Gibney, of Lake Ostwego, OR.
