Mildred Klos of Staples, Minnesota, died at the Lakewood Health System
Care Center on June 29, 2011. She was 89 years of age.
Funeral services will be conducted at Faith Lutheran Church on Tuesday, July 5, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be the Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
Mildred Lorraine Nygren was born on August 11, 1921 in Staples, Minnesota to Dora (Pederson) Nygren and Joseph Nygren. Mildred was baptized and confirmed at the Thomastown Covenant Church where earlier her Grandfather, Reverend Carl J. Nygren, was the Pastor. She grew up in Staples and graduated from Staples High School in 1939. After graduation, she worked at Palmer's Grocery Store in Staples. On September 27th, 1941, she was united in marriage to George Klos, son of Marie and William Klos, at the First English Lutheran Church (Faith Lutheran) in Staples. Mildred's father, Joseph Nygren, built the Church. Mildred and George lived in St. Paul and, after George returned from WWII, they moved back to Staples where she lived until her death. Mildred started working at Perry's Ben Franklin Store in Staples in 1952 and retired from there in 1981.
Mildred, or Millie as she liked to be called, loved to knit, crochet, go to the casino, play cards and spend time with her family, friends and people in general. She could usually be seen with a smile on her face. At the Care Center she loved to attend all the activities and special events that took place.
Survivors are her daughter, Sandra (Bruce) Carlson of Melrose, Minnesota; Her granddaughter, Michelle (Jeff) Ellering of Columbia Heights, Minnesota; Her grandson, James (Christina) Carlson of Maplewood, Minnesota; four great-grandsons, Ryan Ellering and Zachary Ellering of Columbia Heights and Conan Carlson and Corbin Carlson of Maplewood, Minnesota; nieces Kay (Russ) Doepner of Lake Elmo; Pam (Dan) Harris of Motley; nephews Joel (Kim) Quance and Pat (Nancy) Quance of Staples; Garry (Gloria) Quance of Montgomery; Jim (Kathy) Payne of St. Paul; cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dora Nugren; her husband, George; sisters-in - law, Edith Quance and Geneva Payne; her nephew, Bill Payne, and various other family members.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
