Mildred Elva Julia Dailey, "Millie", 92, of Brainerd, MN died Monday, June 22, 2105 surrounded by her family at Edgewood Vista of Brainerd. A Celebration Of Life for Millie will be at 11:00AM on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Baxter's Lakewood Evangelical Free Church. Family and friends are invited to gather from 2:00-4:00PM Sunday, June 28, 2015 for visitation at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
Mildred was born on July 26, 1922 on her family's dairy farm in Brainerd to David and Emma (Hagelin) Sandberg. Upon completion of high school, Millie followed her passion and earned a teaching certificate from St. Cloud State in July 1942. Millie began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse. Mildred married Clarence Dailey on December 5, 1942. They were blessed with five children and 53 years of marriage. Life held many adventures for Millie and her husband including running a photography studio in Staples and cabin rentals on their White Sand Lake property. Mildred went on to teach special education in the Brainerd School District for 20 years before retiring in June of 1987. Millie loved the outdoors, White Sand Lake, camping, playing board games and cards with her sister and grandchildren, zig-saw puzzles, poetry, her church, and her flower beds. Millie became a master gardener. She founded Brainerd's school chess club. Millie loved traveling with her sister, Bernice. Faith and family were always central in Millie's life.
Mildred is survived by her sons, Lew of Fargo, ND, and Jerry of California; her three daughters, Diane Johansen, Sandra (Les) Museus, and Gail (Brian) Helmer all of Brainerd; twenty one grandchildren; forty five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Roy, Floyd, Adolph, Milton, Donald, Leon, Lyle, and Charles; and sisters, Ruby and Bernice; her granddaughter, Christina; and great grandson, Corbin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
