Michael William Nash, born on November 17, 1953, Duluth, Minnesota, left the world on August 29, 2024, in Aitkin, Minnesota. He dedicated a major part of his life, working at Camp Ripley in Military Affairs from November 23,1981, until his retirement on November 1, 2012. Michael’s career was not only a reflection of his commitment but also his pride, illustrating the deep respect he held for his nation and the values he cherished.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was a man of diverse interests and passions. He found immense joy in traveling and was particularly fond of rock hunting, amassing a remarkable collection of agates and heart rocks that stood as tangible memories of his adventures. He was known for his hearty spirit at gatherings, never missing a birthday party, and bringing joy to every celebration. His love for garage sale hunting, and always finding just one more treasure, was just another testament to his fun-loving nature, showcasing his joy for simple pleasures and treasures.
Michael's proudest moments often revolved around nature and friendship, encapsulated in his yearly trips to Glacier National Park. With a group of high school friends, he would hike and climb the majestic glaciers, immersing himself in the landscapes' beauty and camaraderie's warmth. He was also the Vice President of the Eagles Club in Brainerd, where you could always find him visiting with friends or out on the dance floor with Barbara.
He leaves behind his spouse of 26 years Barbara Nash; children Brian (Bethany) Nash of Rice Lake, WI, and Erin Strack of Sauk Rapids, MN, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and passion; and his grandchildren Simon, Thea, Priska, Echo, Icarus, Nina, and Ruthie.
Michael is survived by loving family members, including his sister Julie (David) Scherle of Shakopee, MN, and Karen Nash of Hermantown, MN. He also embraced his role as step-father and step-grandfather to Holly (Laura) Wurtz of Elgin, IL, Lonna Maxe of Brainerd, MN, Jamie Jensen Hanson of Brainerd, MN, and their respective children, Zachary (Amanda) Bohlman, Evan (Christina) Bohlman, Alex Maxe, Rhilannon Maxe, Jade Jensen, and Torrin Pagnac, as well as his step-great-grandchildren Emma, Aubrey, Lilah, and Luke Bohlman.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and brother Dave Nash, whose memories he held dear.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Michael will be held on September 21, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Eagles Club in Brainerd, Minnesota. Michael William Nash will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends, cherished and remembered for the joy he brought into their lives.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
