Michael Edward Kukowski

Michael Edward Kukowski, age 77, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 30, 2024 in Brainerd, MN. Mike was born on November 22, 1946, in Beach, ND. He grew up on his family’s farm, learning the value of hard work, resilience, and a love for land and livestock—qualities he would carry with him throughout his life. 

As a young man, Mike’s passion for farming blossomed through his involvement in Future Farmers of America (FFA) during high school. His time in FFA deepened his agricultural knowledge and instilled a sense of pride in the farming way of life, sparking a dedication he would nurture throughout his lifetime. He also developed a lifelong enthusiasm for math, often using his analytical skills in creative ways around the farm, whether calculating seed yields or building new systems for heating and irrigation. If anyone was looking for Mike, they most likely would find him in the field, the barn, or the garden. 

Mike’s ingenuity was a hallmark of his life on the farm. He took pride in finding ways to make his farm operations run more smoothly and efficiently. Additionally, family and friends recall his readiness to share his knowledge and opinions of the economy and politics—often relating stories of his younger years over a glass of iced tea.

Mike was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Dottie, and a proud father and grandfather. He is survived by Dottie, his five children, son-in-law, and ten grandchildren, who will remember his life lessons, his booming voice, and the special moments spent together. Mike loved children and adored his seven great-grandchildren who brought him joy and laughter. His family members find comfort in knowing he’s at peace, perhaps now smiling from above with his parents, son (Bernard John), great granddaughter, brothers, nieces, and nephew who preceded him in death. 

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Golva, ND, with burial following at Alpha Cemetery where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a life well-lived.
