Michael D. Griswold, age 68, of Pine River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at his home. He was born September 18, 1939 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Kenneth and Florine Griswold. He grew up and attended schools in St. Paul, finishing his education with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education.
He chose to begin his teaching career in California where he taught Industrial Arts for twenty-one years. Returning to Minnesota, he built a home on the Long Farm Road. Michael was exceptionally creative. He had a strong interest in the art of redesigning and remodeling automobiles, as well as an enthusiasm for drag racing. He won a number of speed trophies in drag racing during his high school and college years. Later during his teaching years he designed and raced dune buggies in the Baja Peninsula and Pikes Peak races, achieving prominence in both.
He is survived by his father, Kenneth Griswold of Pine River; sister, Susan Cook of Auburn, AL; nephew, Lucas Jensen of Athens, GA; niece, Elise Jensen of Tallahassee, FL; cousins: Richard and Stewart Collins of South St. Paul, MN. He is also mourned by his loving friends, Tim and GayLynn Caouette of Pine River, who cared for him as family. Michael was fond of animals and had adopted many.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Florine Griswold.
Services will be 1 PM on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Burial will follow at Norwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
