Merlyn Brandanger, age 86, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009. He was born April 1, 1923, in Roberts, Wisconsin, to Berntine and Grace Brandanger. Merlyn was a decorated veteran serving in the US Air Force during World War II. He was a prisoner of war for 13 months in Europe and participated in the German Death March. He worked as an accountant in Minneapolis before starting Brandanger and Associates, a successful auditing business. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing poker with his family.
Merlyn is survived by his wife, Shirley; children: David Brandanger, Diane Lund, Douglas Brandanger (Ruth), Dennis Brandanger (Liz); and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Donald; and grandchildren, Daniele and Pryor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Services will be at 11 AM on Friday, May 29, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, with Pastor Frank Milo officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
