Merle Sundberg

Merle June Sundberg, 85, of Baxter, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, MN. A memorial service will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter with Reverend Darrell Pedersen officiating with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Garrison Cemetery.
Merle was born on November 18, 1918 in Minneapolis daughter of Ray and Mary (Swanson) Ford. She graduated from Edison High School in Minneapolis. On May 29, 1941 she was united in marriage to Norman Sundberg. In the early 60?s they purchased the Mille Lacs Motel in Garrison and operated it until the mid 80?s. At that time they moved to Baxter and lived with their family. On August 25, 1995 Norman died. Merle continued to live in Baxter and wintered in El Cajon, CA. She moved to Woodland Good Samaritan Village Apartments in 2000. She was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, visiting, card playing and being with her family and friends.

Merle is survived by her three sons, Bruce Sundberg of Garrison, Keith Sundberg of Shoreview, Glen (Dinah) Sundberg of Baxter; one daughter Lynne (Randy) LeeJoice of Temecula, CA and four grandchildren. Her husband, parents and a brother Vernon Ford preceded her in death. Services entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
