Merle Mattson

August 9, 1925 — September 7, 2017

Merle was born in Willmar, MN to George and Myrtle Anderson. When she was a baby the family moved to Minneapolis. When she was in the 3rd grade they moved to a house on Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington where she lived until she graduated from high school. After high school she attended Northwestern College for one year. She also worked at 3 different insurance companies through the years and retired after over 35 years from Western National.

Merle accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Red Rock Camp as a young girl. Merle had a heart for children s ministry and was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. She also taught Bible School and kids clubs.

On June 7, 1952 she married Melvin E. Mattson Jr. They were married for 52 years and lived in Bloomington, MN. Shortly before Mel passed away they moved to Brainerd to be closer to family.

They were both members of the Oxboro Evangelical Free Church in Bloomington. Merle had extensive back surgery in 1984 which kept her from doing a lot of physical work but she so enjoyed supporting Mel with all his building projects at both Camp Shamineau and Camp Cherith. Merle is survived by 3 children. Daughter Michele (Paul) Edwards, Sons Mark (Miriam) Mattson and Marvin Mattson. 7 grandchildren, Todd, Penny, Chad, Kyle, Kayla, Emily and Kyle. 8 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husband Melvin, Brothers Willis Anderson and Charles Anderson.
