May 8, 1932 — December 9, 2011

Melvin Mevissen, age 79, of rural Leader, MN, died Friday, December 9th, 2011, at his home, with his loved ones at his side. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, December 13th, at 11:00 AM, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Anoka, MN.

Melvin was born May 8th, 1932, to Edward and Stella (Sonterre) Mevissen in Anoka, MN. He served in the US Army and on February 2, 1952, he married LaVerne Breyen in Ozark, Alabama, and later settled in Nowthen, MN. After her death, he moved his family to Backus and eventually to the Leader Area, where he made his home for over 30 years. He worked at Federal Cartridge as a welder and spent some years at Morey's, but farming was in his blood. No matter how hard it was it always pulled him back.
