D.Maxine DAmbrogio, 83, of Merrifield, died early Friday morning, May 12, 2006,at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 11:00 AM with Father Dennis Hoffman officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
Maxine DAmbrogio was born on January 9, 1923 to Max and Agnes (Lynch) Englebert in Minneapolis. She contracted polio at 14 and spent time recovering at Gillette Hospital. She graduated from Marshall High School. During World War II she worked for the war effort at Northern Pump. In 1946, she was united in marriage to Alfred DAmbrogio in Minneapolis. They bought a resort near Merrifield in the late 40s. They moved to rural Merrifield with her family in 1954 and continued to operate the resort until 1965. After her husbands death on September 27, 1984 built a new home and went to work for the Green Thumb Program in the Brainerd library and then for the Crosslake Police Department.

Maxine and Alfred were charter members of Immaculate Heart Church in Crosslake. She was the organist/choir director until she became ill. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Mission Auxiliary of Mission Fire Department, Birthday and Card Club and the American Legion.

Maxine enjoyed crafts and arts all of her life, such as, painting (artist), playing the organ, knitting and crocheting. Those who remember Maxine will have a painting, an afghan, a sweater, or some other craft that she would have given them. All will remember her as creative, happy and giving.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Annette (Douglas) Rider, of Shakopee; her son, Kenneth (Debie) DAmbrogio, of Merrifield; three grandchildren, Corin, Erik (Janelle), and Jamie(Jason) Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Joshua, Korbyn and Jason; and sister, Margie Rondeau, of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her parents; sister, Lorraine; and granddaughter, Heather DAmbrogio.
