Maurice Pokorny

Maurice "Morrie" A. Pokorny, 82, of Merrifield, MN died on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Crosby Care Center in Crosby, MN. A Memorial Service for Morrie will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Huber Funeral Home (520 2nd Street, Excelsior, MN). Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services and enjoy a lunch at the American Legion following the service.

Maurice was born on December 11, 1932 in Silver Lake, MN to Albin and Eleanor (Posusta) Pokorny. He worked for Red Owl as a mechanical engineer for 32 years, while also operating his Auto Salvage Business and helping his father on the farm. Morrie was united into marriage to Mary Henning on September 4, 1964 in Mitchell, SD. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wrestling, and fixing cars. Morrie also loved his dogs. He loved spending time with his family and was especially proud when he and Mary built their home on Horseshoe Lake in Merrifield, MN and moved there permantely in 2004.

Morrie is survived by his wife, Mary of Merrifield, MN; sons, Rick (Laura Higgins-fiancée) Pokorny of Excelsior, MN, Jim Pokorny of Emily, MN, and Michael Pokorny of Princeton, MN; daughter, Patricia; two grandsons, Jason and Ian; sisters, Elaine and Rita; and one brother, Roger. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Wendy; grandson, Shane; and brothers, Milo and Wayne. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association.
