Marylu DeVahl

Marylu J. DeVahl, 92, of St Paul, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s in Brainerd, MN on 12/25/2020.

Marylu was born 11/6/1928 in St Paul, MN to Carl and Viola Johnson. She graduated from Johnson High School and earned a bachelors degree from Macalester College. She married Eric DeVahl in 1952. Marylu was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Marylu loved music and was an accomplished piano player. She taught piano lessons for many years. She was a lifelong member of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, where she gave generously of her time and talents as a choir member, accompanist, preschool teacher, club and committee member.

Marylu enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabin in Crosslake. Lifelong friends included the Mar Club formed in high school, Ski Group, Sewing Club, and The Gang.  Marylu enjoyed long walks, gardening, nature and cross-country skiing.

She is survived by her children: Robert (Julie) DeVahl, Jane (Michael) Moschel and Mary DeVahl. Grandchildren: Dannae, Kristin, Kevin and Kayla. Marylu was preceded in death by parents: husband Eric and brother William Johnson.
