Mary Ann Olson Meyer, age 82, of Verndale, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Hospital, on Wednesday, December 26. A Funeral Service is planned for Monday December 31, at 11:00 AM, at the Swan Valley Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Swan Valley Cemetery.
She was born October 21, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Ray and Cora (Troelstrup) Bacon. Her parents died when she was young; her aunt Lorraine raised her in Minneapolis before Mary Ann moved to Leader. She attended Staples high school up to the 9th grade. She married her late husband Duane Olson June 14, 1947 who passed away in 1976. Together they had 4 children, all of whom were born in Denver, CO., and she diligently worked as a Housewife and for a time at Montgomery Ward Catalog Company when she lived in Sandstone. Mary Ann also lived in Oklahoma and Finalandson, MN. She then later married her late husband Udo "Butch" Meyer on April 17, 1990. She loved the outdoors, though fall was her favorite time of year. She loved nature, the animals, flowers, fishing, and especially cats.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving children, Kenneth Olson (Sandra) of Sandstone, MN; Duane "Red" Olson (Donna) of Sandstone, MN; Phillip Olson (Diane) of Finlayson, MN; Barbara Hamaline (Glen) of Victoria, Australia. Her step children, Sandra Meyer (Maynard); Sharyn Erickson (Richard); her sister Marge Shake, and 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Duane and Udo "Butch", sister Betty Jean; brother, Phil; and stepson Michael.
