Mary "Lee" Burden Bundgaard joined like angels Saturday Morning, September 15, 2007.
Lee was born in St. Louis, MO July 28, 1921, the daughter of Louis Lee and Mildred Mary Burden, but grew up in Western Springs, Ill. Lee attended grade school, high school and junior college near La Grange, IL before completing her education with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the University of Iowa in 1942. The friends Lee made during these school years remained dear all her life. Over the years she has been a homemaker and mother in Omaha, NE, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Westport, CT before the woods and lakes of Central Minnesota became her home. Wherever she was never heard to speak ill of anyone.
Lee married E. "Allen" Bundgaard on September 10, 1943 and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Lee and Allen had three children, Bruce Burden (Marj) Bundgaard, of Crosslake, Kurt Jepson (Mary Ann) Bundgaard, and Robert Lee (Carol) Bundgaard, of Breezy Point. Their son, Kurt, died in an automobile accident in 2003. Lee is also survived and well loved by seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ruth Gard. Her ongoing joy came from her family and just being, "Gramma Lee".
In 1991, Lee was awarded the "Outstanding Lay-Person in Education" award from the Pequot Lakes Education Association. She was always concerned for other people. Lee was a member of the Breezy Point Women's Club and a charter member of the Athena Club in Edina. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and the Geritol Frolics. Lee also enjoyed pets.
Memorial Services for Lee are scheduled for Sunday, September 30 at 3:30 PM at Grace United Methodist Church in Pequot Lakes with the Reverend Calvin Petersen, of Vermillion, SD, officiating. Refreshments will follow services. At a later date, Lee will be laid to rest at Pelican Wood Cemetery in Breezy Point. The family prefers memorials to flowers and would like them sent in Lee's name to Alzheimer's or Cancer research foundations.
