Marvin C. Verbeck, age 88, of Staples, passed away at St. Josephs Hospital in Brainerd on Thursday, April 23. A funeral service is planned for Monday, April 27, at 1:00PM at the Staples Church of Christ with Pastor Barry Klein officiating. There will be a visitation on Sunday evening from 4-6 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Verndale.
Marvin was born on October 23, 1920, in Desmet, South Dakota, to Wilbur L. and Mary M. (Moench) Verbeck. He grew up in the Wadena area. He joined the military December 14, 1942, where he served in WWII. During his years in the service he married Florence R. Chapman, at their farm in Henning, on June 8, 1943. Together they had nine children. He was released on November 13, 1945. After the service he and his family lived in various places and owned various businesses involving logging, construction, farming, and mechanics. He has fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.
He is survived by his son Vernon Verbeck (Nancy) of Motley, MN; four daughters, Rose (Bazil) Wales of Staples, Doris Seely of Deer River, Viola (Bruce) Seeley of Deer River and Mableann Cooper of Minneapolis, MN (Lawrence of Motley); and special friend Violet Moench.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers Larry and LeRoy; two half brothers Percy and Taylor; two sons Ormall and Dale Verbeck; two daughters Pearl and Ruby Verbeck; Son-in-law Darwin Seely; and grandson Jesse Pierce.
He was loved and will be great missed by his friends and family.
