Marvin D. Swecker, age 81, of Motley, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Care Center on Saturday, July 10. A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, July 14, at 11:00 AM, at the United Methodist Church in Motley. The visitation will be on Tuesday evening, from 5-7, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Motley Public Cemetery.
Marvin was born on April 2, 1929, in Cass County, MN, to Leo and Ruth (Seely) Swecker. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Motley. He attended Motley Schools, graduating from 12th Grade in 1947. On June 11, 1949, he married Wilma Cruse, in Motley. Marv worked as a farmer and for Northern Pacific Railroad for 39 years, retiring in 1991. Marvin was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Motley Lions Club, served on the Motley School Board, belonged to the Rainbow Riders Saddle Club and the Motley Historical Society, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Marvin is survived by his children, Carla (John) Liddington of Fort Worth, TX, Ken (Paula) of Motley, Kevin (Melaine) of Sauk Rapids, and Shelly (Tom) Ladwig of Motley; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friend Betty Farber. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; great-granddaughter, Payton; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Motley Lion's Club.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
