Marvin R. Oliphant, 86, of Brainerd, formerly of Pillager, died on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Good Samaritan Village-Woodland in Brainerd, MN. Services for Marvin will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 3:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN with visitation one hour prior to services.
Marvin was born on May 25, 1927 in Pillager, MN to Robert and Grace (Richmond) Oliphant. He worked for the railroad for several years. Marvin met and married his wife, Deloris, in 1964. Shortly after, they moved to Blaine, MN where he and Deloris worked for Northwest Automatic Plating Company for several more years. They then retired to the old homestead in Pillager where Marvin continued to work for Maddens. Marvin enjoyed long walks in the woods, sharing his knowledge of firearms with the with the next generations, reading, old westerns and GUNS! He was also a proud member of the NRA!
Marvin is survived by his children, Diane (Gary) Blue of Bemidji, MN, Gaylene Peter of Bemidji, MN and Heather (Dan) Gillund of Ham Lake, MN; brothers, Dale, Galen, Bruce, and Gary; sisters, Ardyth Sullivan, Betty Marshall, Janie Salfisberg, Sharon Ackervik, and Diane Talhami; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deloris; brother, Ralph; and an infant brother who did not survive childbirth. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
