Marlys Guse

March 27, 1934 — February 23, 2016

Marlys A. (Hoines) Guse, passed away at her home outside of Crosslake, Minnesota, on February 23, 2016 at the age of 81. Marlys was born to parents Andrew and Clara Hoines on March 27th, 1934 in the same farm house in Veblen, South Dakota as her father. The family later moved to Britton, South Dakota where she met her husband, Martin E. Guse. Marty served in the military and returned home on leave for Christmas in December of 1954. The two were wed on December 23, 1954. They later moved to the Twin Cities and the two of them began their family. While in the cities, Marlys was a surgical nurse and Marty later began his career as a State Farm agent. They have three children Sandra, Randal, and Sheri. Through the years, Marlys and Marty have been very active with friends and family. Marlys was very involved with the Cancer foundation, city park board in the city of Roseville, MN, avid bridge player, and golf enthusiast. They both were past members of Midland Hills Golf Club, White Fish Golf Club in northern Minnesota near their lake home during the summer months, and Cimarron Golf Club in Mission, Texas where they had their winter home for many years. Marlys was loved and cherished by all who knew her. Her kind and gentle spirit was a comfort to friends and family, and she was always kind and considerate with nary a bad word to say about anyone. She had a great sense of humor and was beloved by her friends, and could always keep them on their toes. Marlys remained active even through her struggles and battle with cancer and its complications. She remained ever hopeful and optimistic through it all, never complaining, and asking for very little. She always thought of the needs of others before her own, taking care of, and ever leading her family with style, dignity, poise, and grace. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Andrew and Clara Hoines, and her sister Claudia (Cookie) Hoines. She is survived by her sister Sylvia Suelz (Dave) and her three nieces Bridget, Barbara, and Bonnie; her husband Marty of 61 years, their 3 children: Sandra Guse (Randy Westby), daughter Sheri Guse, and son Randal Guse (Teri) and their 4 children and niece [Anthony, Jessica, Nicholas, Katherine, and Sheree Ward (Benjamin) and their 3 boys (Jackson, Jacob, and Samuel)]. She will always be remembered and cherished with love. Family and Friends know and say, she will be greatly missed here, but are also quick to admit Heaven is regaining a beautiful angel. We know she will continue to watch over us all, sending her messages of love and joy in ways only Marlys can do. Marlys' funeral arrangements have been made through Brenny Funeral home in Crosslake, MN. Marlys' memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2pm at Crosslake Lutheran Church, MN with a reception to follow.
