Marjory Bunte

June 9, 1921 — October 15, 2013

Marjory "Marge" Bunte, 92, formerly of Backus, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society of Pine River, Minnesota. Services are at United Methodist Church in Pine River at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2013, with Pastor Hager officiating.
Marjory Moore was born June 9, 1921, to Robert Jackson Moore, and Della (Martin) Moore.
She grew up in the Honey Creek Quaker Church, in New Providence, Iowa, and was the fifth of nine children. She graduated from New Providence HS in New Providence, IA.

She married Walter J. Bunte on April 4, 1941. Together they made their first home in Hubbard, Iowa, where Walt had his own Service Station.
When Walt returned from the service, they made their home primarily in Cedar Falls, IA, where Walt worked at AY McDonalds in Waterloo, and then as a sales rep for Petro Supplies, while Marge served as a stay-at-home mom, with a part time position with Avon. She also worked in the school cafeteria at Peet Jr. High in Cedar Falls. She made many life friends, both at work, and in the neighborhood. They also had a vegetable garden every summer, and she stocked her shelves high with canned goods and preserves. She also enjoyed painting ceramic figurines and an occasional game of golf.
Upon retirement in 1978, they purchased lake property in Backus, MN. They loved the woodsy lake shore, but also enjoyed spending their winters in McAllen, TX where Marge learned oil painting and woodcarving.

Marge was active in the Powers Township Powder Puff Birthday Club, St. Joseph's Hospice Auxiliary, Pine River Art Club, and the Pine River American Legion Auxiliary.
Her husband Walter passed away on May 6, 2002. She found solace and comfort by attending church at the Pine River United Methodist Church. She became known as the "Pickle Lady", ever since she donated her bread and butter sweet pickles to the church for the annual Harvest dinner. She prided herself as always having the coffee pot on for drop-in neighbors. With her increasingly limited vision, they helped her be part of their weekly spinner domino games.

Marge is survived by her two children, Carolyn (Robert) Ballard, Moorhead, MN and John (Pat Hare), Eldora, IA; four grandchildren, Greg Ballard (Anne) of Blaine, MN, DeAnn (Steve) Zimmer of Hibbing, MN, Taunya Bunte of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert John (Rhonda) Bunte of Lincoln, NE; four great-grandchildren, Brendan, Ashleigh, Aidan Ballard, and Sebastian Bunte; and her brother, Robert M Moore of Green Mountain, IA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Good Samaritan Society Home Care & Hospice-Pine River. This gift provides a more lasting memory while helping others.
