Marion Mertens, age 72, of Wadena, passed away at her home, on Saturday, January 15. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 20, at 10:30 AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. The Wake will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, with a Rosary at 5:30 and Parish Prayers at 6:00. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Marion was born on April 9, 1938, in Motley, MN, to George and Clara (Lucas) Carlson. In 1957 she married David Mertens in the Sacred Heart Church and they have five children. She and her husband retired in 1995. She enjoyed doing needlework, knitting, croqueting, and card making. She loved to garden, travel in their RV, research genealogy, and spend time with her grandchildren. She and Dave spent many winters at their home in Texas. She was a member of the Wadena Whirlaways and loved to square dance.
Marion is survived by her husband, David; children, Mike (Brenda Lemon)of Perham, David (Sharon) of Wadena, Steve (Charlene) of Quilcene, WA, Nancy (Dan) Meier of Hackensack, and Bev (Dar) Quiring of Bells, TX; 17 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Marie Peitz and Carol Mertens; three brothers, Dennis (Jean) Carlson, Joe (Linda) Carlson, and Jim (Mary) Carlson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and Dale; great-grandson, Hunter; and her first husband, Jerome Resch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the CM TEC.
