Marilyn Jones

August 23, 1937 — January 26, 2017

Marilyn Jones, age 79, of Brooklyn, NY, and formerly Pine River, MN, went to be with her Lord on January 26, 2017, after battling pancreatic cancer. Marilyn was born to Clyde and Arline Jones of Pine River, on August 23, 1937, in Pierre, SD.

Marilyn graduated from Pine River, class of 1955. After graduation she went to St. Paul Bible and then on to Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN, where she graduated. She spent a year in Africa to teach children of Lutheran Brethren Missionaries. After her time in Africa she moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she became the teacher of the nursery school at the 59th street Lutheran Brethren Church. She also taught at Lutheran Elementary School in Bay Ridge before teaching at a public school in Bedford-Stuyvesant for several years.

Marilyn was very involved at 59th Street Church. She served with the Pioneer Girls Program, monthly senior lunch and Sunday lunches. She was a Deaconess and the secretary for the Congregation for many years. She was also very involved with the Discipleship ministry that is now Turning Point.

Marilyn is survived by her sister, Carolyn (Ronald) Sprecher of Lindstrom, MN, her brother, James (Patricia) Jones of Richmond, VA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert (Shirley) Jones of Kent, WA; and sister, Lois Jeane DeRosier (Leo) of Fort Ripley, MN.

Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, April 29, at Riverview Church, Pine River. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
