Marilyn Louise Amundson, age 75, of Merrifield, MN, was born on April 3, 1942 and lost her battle with cancer on June 24, 2017. Marilyn was born on the Gravdahl farm west of Pequot Lakes. She graduated from Pequot High School in 1960 and studied nursing at Fairview School of Nursing in Mpls, where she worked for most of her career. Marilyn married Lyle Amundson in 1962 and together they raised three boys who, with their wives, gave them eight grandchildren. Although they lived far from each other, their strong bond brought the families together often. Along with family, Marilyn was strong in her faith and devoted her life to caring and serving others. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, MN. Marilyn's love of quilting inspired many and she gathered often with others at Breezy Point and in Brainerd/Baxter to share ideas and learn new quilting skills.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lyle Amundson; sons: Thomas (Julie) of Minneapolis, Jeffery (Richelle) of Denver, and Matthew (Cecelia) of Houston; grandchildren: Corbin, Katie (Tom), Paige, Christian, William (Jeff), Ben, Emily, Julia (Matt); siblings: David Gravdahl (Jan), Sharon Ingvoldstad (Bill), Linda Brandon, Mary Frost, Judith Haphey (Rick), and Timothy Gravdahl (Shelli); sister-in-law, Tammy Bargy (Mike); brothers-in-law, Merlin Amundson and George Balding; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and Arvid Gravdahl; brother, James Gravdahl; brothers-in-law, Jerry Wallin and Will Frost; sisters-in-law, Joanne Balding and Dorothy Amundson.
Funeral services will be held at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa on Monday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation preceding the service from 10-11 a.m. Marilyn will be laid to rest in the Gravdahl Family Cemetery west of Pequot Lakes. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Minneapolis, The Gravdahl Family Cemetery, or a place of your choosing.
