Marie Laubenstein

Marie D. Laubenstein, 96, formerly of Pine River, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013, in Blackduck, MN. Marie was born on February 2, 1917, to Fritz and Alma Prigge in Howard Lake, MN. After her mother's death in 1923, her father raised the three young children by himself and lived in various areas of Minnesota. Marie met Harold Laubenstein while living in Detroit Lakes, MN, and after a 4 year courtship they married in 1937 in Buffalo, MN.

Harold and Marie along with her younger brother and father traveled out west looking for work. Not finding any, they came back to Minnesota and settled down in Pine River, where they lived for 65 years. Harold eventually owned his own business while Marie raised their two children, enjoying gardening, cleaning homes, making craft items and lefse. Harold passed away in 2003 and Marie moved to Blackduck to live with her daughter and family in 2008.

Marie is survived by her son, Merle (Leanne) Laubenstein of Pine River; her daughter, Cindy (Jim) Swedberg of Blackduck; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Services will be 1 PM on Saturday, August 3, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River.
