Marie Louise (Henrich) Friedrich, 76, of Crosslake, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at St. Peter Community Health Care Center in St. Peter, MN. Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday, March 19, at Crosslake Lutheran Church, with Reverend Mark Anderson officiating. Friends may visit from 4-8 PM Thursday, March 18 at Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake. Second funeral services will be 1:30 PM, Sunday, March 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. Friends may visit from 4-8 PM Saturday, March 20 at Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, MN. Interment will be at St. Olaf Cemetery in New Richland following Sunday services.
Marie was born April 18, 1927, in Manhattan, NY. After the death of her mother, Louise Henrich, Marie was adopted by her grandparents, Walter J. and Bertha (Spiegel) Henrich. Marie graduated from Cross Street Elementary School in Williston Park, NY. In January, 1945, she graduated from Mineola High School. After completing her education, Marie was employed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers on Wall Street, and later by Burrough?s Welcome Pharmaceutical Company in Manhattan.
Marie met Howard Friedrich during the Navy Day Celebration in NY in 1945. He was a crew member aboard the USS Enterprise, which had docked in the harbor for the celebration. Marie and Howard were engaged to be married in March of 1946. They were united in marriage August 17, 1946, at the Dutch Reformed Church in Williston Park, NY, by Reverend Alvin J. Neevil. They moved to Minnesota, and then Madison, SD, where Marie worked at Galloways Department Store and Howard attended school. The following year, they returned to Williston Park, where Howard was employed by Fairchild Sons Funeral Home in Brooklyn and Marie worked at Williston Park Bank. The next year they returned to Minnesota, where Howard enrolled at the University of Minnesota, School of Mortuary Science. In August of 1949, they moved to Henderson, where Howard was employed by Roschen Funeral Service. In May of 1956, they moved to New Richland, where they purchased Tyrholm Funeral Home and Furniture Store. Marie worked very hard to help make their business successful. They sold their businesses in 1986. In 1990, Marie and Howard purchased a home in Manhattan Beach. During their retirement, they spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ and Mesa, AZ. In May of 2003, Marie?s Alzheimer?s took a turn for the worse. She was admitted into St. Peter Community Health Care Center October 23, 2003.
Marie was a devoted wife and mother. She was also a very talented and gifted singer. She was involved in numerous choirs, as well as in a group called Grandmother?s Quartet. The Quartet sang for many ELCA ladies functions throughout southeastern Minnesota. Marie was involved in numerous organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in Henderson; she was active at Trinity Lutheran church in New Richland, where she taught Sunday School, served on the church council, and was a member of Church Women; she was a member of Waseca Chorale; she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in New Richland; and she and Howard were members of Crosslake Lutheran Church.
Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Howard; her son, Larry (Cynthia) Friedrich, of St. Peter; her daughter, Mary Ann (Tom) Kramer, of Granite Falls; her granddaughters Laura (David) Eyre, of Hinckley, Heather (Dylan) Hooper of Dillingham, Alaska; foster-granddaughter, Becky (Christopher) DeVries, of Wahpeton, ND; her grandsons, Jeremy (Chris) Kramer of Owatonna, and Colin (Kimberly) Kramer of Minneapolis; her great granddaughters, Lindsey, Brittney, Madison & Gabrielle Kramer of Owatonna, Ellen Eyre of Hinckley, Emily DeVries, of Wahpeton, ND; sisters-in-law, Margie Friedrich, of Worthington, Edith Henrich, of Ocala, FL, and Jeanne Henrich, of Ridge, NY, and Emily Henrich, of Zephyr Hills, FL; and also several nieces and nephews.
