Margaret E. Swailes, age 83, of Motley, died Friday afternoon at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:30 in St. Michaels Catholic Church in Motley with Father Peter Kirchner officiating. Burial will follow in the Motley Public Cemetery. Her family will receive friends and neighbors on Monday evening from 5 to 7 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Parish Prayers will be said at 6:45.
Margaret Eleanor Swailes was born on April 18th, 1922 in Motley to Martin and Mary (Frombach) Rosvold. She graduated with the Class of 1940 from the Munising High School in Munising, Michigan. On February 25th, 1941 she married John Swailes. Together they worked and raised their family in Michigan and Illinois. The two of them retired back to Motley in 1976. Margaret has been a long time member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Motley, a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a life member of the Wives of US Submarine Veterans. Throughout the years she has enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, croqueting, and found much peace in prayer groups and personal meditation.

Margaret is survived by her husband; John. two daughters; Jacquey (Tom) Pateman of Bruce Mines, Ontario, Canada, and Helen (Bob) Merchant of Victoria, MN, a son; John (Angela) Swailes of Oceanside, CA, a daughter-in-law; Pris Swailes of Goodrich, Michigan, 11 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; Mary Alice Frombach, her father; Martin Rosvold, her son Terry Martin Swailes, her step-mother; Ann Rosvold as well as 2 Great Grandchildren. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
