Margaret Smith, age 94, of Staples passed away Friday afternoon at the Lakewood Health Care Center in Staples. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 28, at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Staples. Margaret Esther Smith was born January 11, 1913, in Wing River Township, Wadena County, the daughter of Louis and Tina (Larson) Jensen. She was called from this life March 23, 2007, at the Lakewood Health Care Center in Staples. She attained the age of 94 years, 2 months and 12 days. Margaret grew up on the family farm and attended school in Wadena County. On November 20, 1931, she was united in marriage to Andrew Winter in Wadena, MN. They farmed and raised their children together sharing over 40 years of marriage before Andrew died on September 18, 1972. She was on the housekeeping staff at the Staples Hospital and later helped her son in The Spot Café. On December 29, 1973, she married Lloyd W. Smith in Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. Six years ago she moved into Harmony House and later to the Care Center. Margaret was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Staples. Among the things she enjoyed were cooking, baking, sewing clothes for her family, embroidery, flowers and gardening, painting figurines, and family get-togethers. She loved being with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Andrew and Lloyd; son, Dwaine; and daughter-in-law, Fran. Margaret is mourned in passing by her children, Elaine Cherro of Duluth, Lauraine Ulik of Ramsey, Janette (Jimmy) Lee of Brainerd, Betty Lou (Paul) Wicht of Verndale, Rodney Winter of Elk River, Shelly (Stan) Morton of Ramsey, and Linda Busche of Perham; stepchildren, Marjorie (Larry) Stock of St, Charles, and Beverly Mahachek of Northfield; daughter-in-law Carole Winter of Staples; sister, Ruby Blank of Thousand Oaks, CA; and sisters-in-law, Helen Jensen of Bemidji, and Irene Jensen of Sebeka; 27 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren.
