Margaret Schmidt

Marie Schmidt, 95, Staples, died Friday, 11-8-2019 at Lakewood Health Systems Care Center, Staples, with her loving family at her side. Visitation for Marie will be from 10 to 11 AM, Wednesday, 11-13-2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Motley, with the service to follow at 11 AM, the Reverend Paul E. Koehler officiating. Burial will be at the Motley City Cemetery, Motley.

Margaret Marie Seely, known as Marie, was born on September 14, 1924 at Staples, MN, daughter of Jess Eugene and Ethel Margaret (Nichols) Seely. She was raised and educated in Staples, graduating from Staples High School in 1942. Marie was united in marriage with Eugene Schmidt on November 3, 1943 in the Congregational Church in Staples. They made their home in Philbrook for a few years and moved to Crosby-Ironton in 1947, where Eugene worked in the mines. Marie worked as a Physical Therapy Aide from 1967 until 1975 at the Cuyuna Range District Hospital. They returned to Philbrook in 1975. Eugene died in 1998.

Marie loved her family dearly. She also loved cooking, baking, sewing and embroidery. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Motley and also the Philbrook Friendly Hour Club.

Marie is survived by her special friend and companion: Harvey Marohn; her children: Vicki Schmidt of Ocean Shores, WA, Dennis (Stella) Schmidt of Philbrook, MN, Kathy Willson of Fort Myers, FL, Terri (Randy) Carlson of Pillager, MN, and Randy (Terri Jean) Schmidt of Fairbanks, AK; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Joan Hagberg of Crosby, MN and Russ Seely of Casselton, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents: Jess and Ethel; her husband: Eugene; and her siblings: Doug Seely, Phyllis Wendelshafer, Lewis Seely, and Richard Seely.
