Margaret "Peg" Nelson passed away on July 9, 2013 at the age of 106 years 7 ½ months. She was born on a farm in Redwood Falls, MN on November 27, 1906.
Peg graduated from Redwood Falls High School and attended one year of business school. She married Carl "Taxi" Nelson of Boyd, MN, in 1926. Peg and Taxi had one son, Charles, born November 11, 1936.
Shortly after the depression hit and the business they started failed, she had to live with her parents while Taxi had to find part-time work. This struggle made her a "saver" of anything that might come in handy later.
Resourceful, strong and resilient, she survived the loss of her husband in 1970. Peg continued to live in Boyd until her nineties when she moved into the Riverside Villas in Pine River to be closer to her son. She moved into the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in 2011. To the very end of her life her mind was quick and witty. Peg loved living at the "Good Sam" nursing home where she loved the people and they loved her. She loved playing cards and continued to play bingo until a week before her death. Peg died of complications of pneumonia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother and husband. Peg is survived by her son, Charles (Shirley); three grandchildren: Kirsten Demars, Karl Nelson (Alyson), Eric Nelson (Sara); step granddaughter, Jill Handley; and twelve great grandchildren: Blake Demars, Morgan Demars, Alex Nelson, Kyle Nelson, Kallie Nelson, Amanda Nelson, Kamryn Nelson, Cade Nelson, Heath Nelson, Mary Ellen Handley, Sarah Ruth Handley and Thomas Handley.
Services will be 2 PM on Saturday, July 13, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Nelson Memorial, Hackensack.
