Margaret Brochhagen, age 86, of Deland, Florida, formerly of Longville, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008. She was born November 30, 1921 in Pine River to Louis (Sr.) and Emma Brochhagen.
She grew up in Ponto Lake Township and attended Ponto Lake Rural School and Backus High School, received her teaching certificate from Bemidji State College and B.A. from the University of Minnesota. She retired from teaching at Harley Hopkins Elementary School in Hopkins, MN.
During WWII, she was a welder at the shipyards in Eureka, California. Between college semesters she worked at Yellowstone National Park.
Margaret loved her nephews, niece, and dear friend, Mary Joslin of Deland, Florida.
She is survived by nephews: Steven Brochhagen (Susan) of Midland, Michigan, Craig Brochhagen and Thomas Brochhagen of Backus; niece Cheryl Crosby (Douglas) of Longville; and sister-in-law, Vilma Brochhagen of Backus.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Louis Brochhagen, Jr.
Memorial service will be 10 AM on Saturday, August 9, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, with Pastor John Monson officiating. A private family burial will be held at Ponto Lake Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Camp Boggy Creek, 30500 Brantley Branch Rd., Eustis, Florida 32736.
