Marcia Macomber, 73, of Fort Worth, TX died at her summer home in Baxter, MN Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Memorial Services for Marcia will be 10:00 AM, Monday, June 29, 2009 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Brainerd with Reverend Deb Celley officiating. After services, friends are welcome to gather at the church for a reception. Following a second service at a time and place to be announced in Forth Worth, TX Marcias cremated remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Chi Omega Scholarship Fund (C/O Mary Helen Derby Scholarship 3395 Players Club Parkway Memphis, TN 38125) or the American Cancer Society.
Marcia was born September 21, 1935 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Leland and Grace Sloane. She was united in marriage to Thomas Macomber June 22, 1957. Marcia worked as a teacher for many years. She was an active individual with numerous interests. She was a Cub Scout Leader and Teacher, a Sunday School Teacher, and volunteered for the Symphony Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Church Women in Fort Worth, TX. She attended First Congregational United Church of Christ Church in Brainerd. Marcia enjoyed bridge, travel, music and golf. She was a member of the Breezy Point Ladies Golf League. In Fort Worth, she was a member of the Retired Military Wives Golf Club. She also enjoyed belonging to the Rejebian Book Club. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and a member of the University of Iowa Marching Band. She continued to be active in the Chi Omega National Organization and she was chairperson of the Chi Omega Gift Market in Fort Worth, TX.
Marcia will be missed by her husband, Thomas; her sons, Charles Macomber, of Minneapolis, Stephen Macomber, of Kansas, and David (Sarah) Macomber, of Fort Worth, TX; her brother, Loren (Alice) Sloane; and granddaughter, Sloane Elizabeth Macomber. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Shirley Follas.
