Maja C. Petrie went to be with God on February 13, 2007.
She was born on May 26, 1908 to Anna and Axel Carlstrom in Waltham, MA where she grew up and went to school until the age of 14. Her family moved to Minneapolis where she graduated from high school. Before she married and for the first few years of her marriage she was a legal secretary for a law firm in Minneapolis.
Maja married Melvin P. Petrie in 1936 and they lived in Edina, MN, Milwaukee, WI, Toronto, Ontario, and Detroit, MI until they retired to Nisswa, MN in 1970. She was a member of Eastern Star, Nisswa Lioness, and the Nisswa Womens Club, and volunteered with the Girl Scouts and senior citizen groups in her younger years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Majalisa and Gordon Prentice of Mississauga, Ontario and Marie and Donald Bode of Brainerd, MN; her granddaughters, Lisa Prentice, Andra (Kursat) Karcia of Mississauga, Ontario, and Danielle (Jay) Hancock, of Robbinsdale, MN; her great-grandchildren, Daniel and Parker Slanina and Jacob and Hannah Kacira, all of Mississauga, Ontario; her step-grandchildren, Susan (Butch) Carawon, Janet (Rick) Bright, and Donald (Michelle) Bode and her step-great-grandchildren, Michelle Carawon, Martha Kate Bright, Ryan (Brandon) Ward, and Tori and Brennan Bode, all of North Carolina; her brother, John Edward Carlstrom, of Minneapolis, MN and her sister-in-law Vera Petrie of Nisswa, MN and all of her friends, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her parents, her sister Olga Broderick, her infant brother and her step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rohn.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
