Mabel Johnson, 98, of Brainerd, formerly of Minneapolis and Kerkhoven, MN died Wedenesday, January 11, 2006. Services for Mabel will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at the First Evangelical Free Church at 5150 Chicago Avenue South in Minneapolis, MN with Reverend Joel Sutton officiating. There will be a visitation an hour prior to services at the church. Interment to follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
Mabel was born July 25, 1907 in Kerkhoven Township in Swift County, the daughter of Lars and Inga (Olson) Brekken. She married David J. Johnson in 1926. She moved from Swift County to Minneapolis with her husband in 1951. Mabel worked as an assembly line worker at Honeywell for many years until her retirement at the age of 65. She enjoyed keeping busy. She also liked gardening and crocheting. Mabel was a member of the First Evangelical Free church in Minneapolis, where she was an active member of the ladies guild.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Skansberg, Mrs. Lillie Ellingboe, Mrs. Bernice Hallberg, and Mrs. Olga Larson; her brothers, Olaf Brekken and Melvin Brekken; and daughter-in-law, Deloris. She is survived by her son, Chester (Carol Ann) Johnson, of Baxter; her daughter, Vivian Johnson, of Baxter; her grandchildren, Kathy (Doug) Kick, of New Prague, Linnae (Tom) Halvorsen, of Rocherster, Penny (Mark) Koosman, of Corcoran, Susan (Casey) Guy, of Elk River, and Patti (Bill) Barrett, of Arizona; nine great-grandsons, nine great-granddaughters, and one great-great granddaughter.
