Lynn Martin

Lynn L. Martin, 85, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Staples, MN, Pine River, MN, New Mexico, and California, died Wednesday, November 7 at Wendigo Pines Assisted Living in Grand Rapids. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Longville Community Church with Reverend Duane Brown officiating. The interment will take place at a later date at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Lynn Leonard Martin was born in East Grand Forks, MN on November 9, 1921, the son of Lawrence and Tina (Taylor) Martin. At an early age, Lynn and his family moved to the Staples area where he graduated from high school before enlisting in the US Navy. He attended submarine school in New London, CT and was active in submarine service for 20 years. He served on the SS 383 Pamtinito and on the SS 336 Capitaine. On May 17, 1944, Lynn was united in marriage to Florence Marie Kingsley at the Congregation Church in Staples. Following his honorable discharge, Lynn and Florence moved to Poway, CA where he worked for Caterpillar and later Solar Turbine for 24 years as an engineer constructing turbines. He was a generous man and loved his German Shepherds. When Florence died in 1985, Lynn moved to Elephant Butte, NM where he enjoyed fishing with his friend, Tom Dahlen. Lynn created many toys working with wood and loved sharing them with many young children. Later in life, Lynn moved back to Minnesota to be near his family.

Lynn will be missed by his sisters, Jo Pardon, of MI and Beatrice Sawyer, of TN; sister-in-laws, Ramona Kingsley (Ted) Pedersen, of Longville, MN and Lois Kingsley, of Dallas, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his parents; two sisters, and one brother.
