Lyell E. Stai, 86, of Baxter, died on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at his home. Services for Lyell will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter, Minn., with Pastor Erika Nilsen officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, Minn., from 1-3 p.m. Interment at the Baxter City Cemetery.
Lyell was born on December 23, 1926 in Evansville, MN to the late Henry and Evelyn (Eastwood) Stai. He graduated from Evansville High School and entered the US Marines where he was a Corpsman in the South Pacific. Lyell worked for the Minneapolis Public Schools most of his working life and was also a painting and decorating contractor. He enjoyed doing volunteer work and loved spending time with his family. Lyell also enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles, and going fishing.
Lyell is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Steven (Sheila) Stai of Eagan, MN; daughters, Deborah (Dale) Kaehn of Crookston, MN and Teresa (Gerald) Lenz of Lake Mary, FL; sister, Arlowyn Elliott of Outing, MN; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marillyn.
