Louis "Swede" Shockley, 84, of Merrifield, MN, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Essentia Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. Family and friends are invited to gather Monday evening from 5-7 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake and one prior to services on Tuesday. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 9 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake. Interment with Military Honors will follow services at 2:00 PM at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
Swede was born July 4, 1930 in West Brandrup Township to Louis and Jessie (Kozenek) Shockley. Following his high school graduation from Breckenridge, Swede started farming. He enlisted in the US Air Force and served for four years. He returned to farming after his honorable discharge. He later moved to the Twin Cities where he was a welder until his retirement to the lake. Swede enjoyed working the farm, his tractors and his shop. He also liked to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents; and his brother, John. He will be missed by his brother, David Shockley; sister, Josephine "Jo" Wehland; step-son, Michael (Judy) Faymoville; step-daughter, Linda (Gary) Johnson; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
